Insight request¶
Insight request is the routine that asks you questions. It exists for the facts that live only in your head, which no tool can read.
Why it exists¶
Extraction sees what was written down. It cannot see that a deal signed over the phone, that you decided to drop a channel, or that a blocker cleared on a call. If nothing records those things, the next plan is built on a picture that is quietly wrong.
Rather than guess, Questo asks, and it makes the ask cheap: one card, short questions, each with the reason it is asking. Your one-line answers become insights tied to the right mission.
What it does¶
Once a day it looks across your active missions for exactly two kinds of gap, and nothing else qualifies:
- State gaps: no source records whether a milestone has landed or a known blocker cleared. If extraction came up empty on a milestone, this routine is the fallback sensor and asks you whether it landed.
- Intent gaps: a prioritisation, constraint, decision or private fact only you hold.
A question is kept only if it passes four gates:
- Mission-anchored: it bears on a specific active mission's milestone, risk, blocker or pending decision.
- Decision-changing: the answer changes what the agent plans or prioritises on that mission in the next few days.
- Non-derivable: the answer is not already in missions, updates, insights, tasks or outputs. A milestone nobody has confirmed counts as non-derivable.
- One-sentence answerable: a busy person can answer in under 140 characters.
It never re-asks a question already answered in a mission's insights or already sitting in an open card, never asks about something the agent has already observed, and never fishes for preferences ("what matters most to you?").
What you see¶
One card per day, covering every mission, with at most three questions per mission and a mission's questions grouped together. Each question comes with a one-sentence rationale: why it is asking and what the answer unlocks. Answer the ones you can and ignore the rest.
Each answer becomes an insight tagged to its mission, which is exactly where the mission plan looks.
If no question clears the gates, no card is posted. The routine does not pad.
When it runs¶
Daily, after extraction. It waits for every enabled extractor, including Questo and connected tools, to finish for the day, because its whole job is asking about what the automated pass could not find. If an extractor fails, it runs anyway with a gap in what it knows and the failure surfaces to you.
Tuning it¶
- Turn it off if the daily questions feel intrusive. The rest of the chain carries on without it, with less to go on for facts only you know.
- Fewer active missions means fewer questions. The cap is per mission, so five active missions can mean up to fifteen questions a day. Pausing missions you are not working is the cheapest fix.
- Answer in a line. The format is built for it, and a short answer is all the plan needs.
