Roadmap review¶
Roadmap review keeps each mission's roadmap true for the weeks ahead. It runs once a week and changes nothing else.
Why it exists¶
The daily planner works from the roadmap. Without one it has your objective and today's date, and it produces something plausible and directionless. But roadmaps rot: a launch slips, a bet dies, and the weeks you planned in January no longer describe what you are doing.
Someone has to keep the horizon a few weeks deep and correct. Roadmap review does that, so the daily planner can stay focused on fixing a week that broke rather than inventing the future.
What it does¶
Each week, for each active mission, it reads the playbook (strategy, cadence, milestones, target date), the health trend, last week's focus and what shipped against it, and the last seven days of insights. Then it decides one of three things per mission:
- This week. If last week's focus did not land, it decides whether this week absorbs the slip or drops it. It rewrites this week's focus only when what the week was for has changed. A plan that still holds is left alone.
- Unplanned weeks. For the next four weeks with no entry, it writes a focus only if that week would change what the daily planner does. A week the cadence and milestones already cover needs no row. A holiday with no changelog, a launch week or a milestone due does.
- Weeks already planned. It rewrites one only when it is now wrong: a dead bet, a slipped prerequisite, a moved milestone. A health verdict of at risk or off track is never grounds on its own. It has to name the specific thing that broke.
Each focus says what the week is for, why now and what it excludes. Near weeks are specific, and the fourth is a line or two. A focus is never a task list and never a restatement of strategy. A mission with a target date inside the horizon is planned only up to that week, and past weeks are history and are never touched.
It touches nothing else: no tasks, cards, milestones, strategy, cadence, rules or mission updates. Those belong to mission planning.
Most weeks several missions need nothing, and a mission that runs on its cadence alone may never need a row. That is the correct outcome, not a skipped job.
What you see¶
No inbox card. Its changes apply directly. Open the mission's Playbook and click Updated to see what changed, alongside every other edit to the mission, its roadmap and its milestones, and revert any of it.
When it runs¶
Weekly, right after the weekly report finishes, so the review reads a closed week and finishes before Monday's planning. It plans only active missions, so if there are none, the run is skipped.
Tuning it¶
- Keep status honest. Pause a mission and it stops being reviewed.
- Write the roadmap yourself when you know. You can fill in or edit weeks at any time. Review repairs and extends; it does not overrule what you wrote unless reality has made it wrong.
- Set a target date if the mission is a campaign. It stops the horizon running past the end.
- Turn it off if you manage the roadmap by hand. Daily planning still fixes a week that broke.
