Knowledge update¶
The knowledge update searches the open web each weekday morning for what changed among your competitors, your market and the customers you sell to, and saves each real change as an insight. It has no settings beyond on and off.
Why it exists¶
Your connected tools only know what your team has already seen. The market keeps moving outside them: a competitor changes pricing, a new entrant launches, a thread on a forum names the objection you keep hearing. This routine is the outside-in sensor, so the day's plan does not start blind to the world.
What it does¶
Each run works through four lenses in order:
- Competitors. Every competitor in your competitor records, each searched by name paired with launch, pricing, funding or acquired.
- The market. The category, segment and forces your Market tenet describes: new entrants, category shifts, regulation, reports with numbers.
- Customers in public. Reviews, forum threads, complaints, objections and switches from the buyers your Market and Positioning tenets describe.
- Your active missions. Anything that bears on a mission's objective, strategy or milestones. The sites, publications and communities a mission's Insight sources name are read first.
It reads at most the top three results per query and puts the current month and year in the query so results land inside the window. It checks the publication date of every page, and anything older than the last run, or with no visible date, is dropped.
It reports only what is new since the last run, and it checks existing insights first, so nothing is filed twice. Most days little has moved, and zero insights is a good result on a quiet day. Press-release boilerplate, listicles and SEO filler are skipped.
Every insight is a claim of at most 140 characters with the source URL and a short verbatim quote as evidence. A claim with no link is unverifiable, so it is not created. Where a finding is evidence about a competitor, it is linked to that record and marked as confirming or contradicting it.
What you see¶
Nothing in your inbox. Findings arrive silently, in two places:
- Mission planning, where tagged web insights count as primary new signal;
- the Insights page, filtered to the source Web.
Tuning it¶
You cannot edit this routine. What it searches is driven by what you keep current:
- Competitor records. The routine searches each by name, so keeping them current directly improves the results.
- The Market tenet. It sets the category and the forces to watch.
- A mission's Insight sources. Name the sites and communities that matter for that mission and they are read first.
When it runs¶
Weekdays at 06:00 in your organization's time zone, ahead of mission planning so the plan is built on fresh outside signal.
