Publishing¶
An output is a draft until it is published, and publishing is always a deliberate act. Nothing leaves your workspace because a run finished.
Nothing leaves without you¶
When an output is ready to go out, it becomes a publish request in the Outbox. The agent can file the request for you, but the send, post or push happens on a person's click, or on a schedule a person set.
Publishing is not the same as sharing. A public link lets someone read the output in Questo. Publishing puts it where it was written for: your website, an inbox, a LinkedIn feed, a Slack channel.
Kinds and channels¶
Every output has a kind and a channel.
- The kind is what it is: an article, page, post, video, comment, email, message, ad, asset, code change or other.
- The channel is where it goes: website, email, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, Slack, Discord, Notion, in-product, ads or other.
The agent writes for the channel, and the channel decides how the output goes out.
How each channel ships¶
| Channel | How it goes out | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Website | A pull request on GitHub that you merge (Open pull request), or a draft item in a Webflow collection (Push draft) | GitHub publishing with a repository added, or Webflow |
| Sent from your Gmail (Send, or Send reply on a thread). A newsletter is pushed as a draft campaign to Mailchimp or Loops (Push draft) and sent from there | Gmail, Mailchimp or Loops | |
| Posted to your own profile (Post) | LinkedIn publishing, connected by you | |
| Slack | Posted into a channel (Post) | Slack Agent, invited to the channel |
| Notion | Created in your Notion by the agent (Publish via agent) | Notion |
| Everything else | You post it yourself, then Mark published | Nothing |
When a channel's connection is missing, the card says so and offers to finish the setup. Connections are covered in Integrations.
Code changes¶
A code change output describes a change to your product rather than a piece of content. Publishing it starts a run that makes the change in your repository and opens a pull request for you to review and merge. The agent never pushes code from a chat.
Questo only adds a GitHub repository whose main branch requires a pull request, so nothing reaches it without a review.
Pushed drafts¶
Some channels hand the last step to another tool: a pull request to merge, a draft campaign to send. Those outputs move to Pushed in the Outbox, with Open in the tool and, where there is one, a preview.
Questo checks back on its own. When the pull request is merged or the campaign is sent, the output moves to Published. A pull request closed without merging returns the output to a draft.
Scheduling¶
For channels Questo sends itself, such as Gmail, LinkedIn and Slack, Schedule... picks a time instead of sending now, and Reschedule... moves it. Sending, marking published or closing the output by hand clears the schedule. If the scheduled send fails, the card says why and waits for you.
Slack channels¶
A Slack output posts into one channel that the Slack Agent app is a member of. Questo only offers channels @Questo has been invited to, so invite it first (/invite @Questo in the channel). New channels show up within a few minutes, and Settings > Integrations > Slack Agent lists the channels it can post to.
The agent picks the channel while drafting and writes for the people in it. When there is more than one channel and no pick, the card asks you to choose. Anyone in your workspace can post a Slack output, from Questo or from the Slack card.
LinkedIn¶
Questo can post a LinkedIn output to your own profile. Each teammate connects their own LinkedIn under Settings > Integrations > LinkedIn publishing, because a personal profile is posted to with that person's login.
Only you can post to your profile. A teammate, or the agent, can draft a post for you, and the agent writes it in your voice. The card then waits for you: teammates see "Waiting for you to post", and only your click sends it. That holds in Slack too, where Questo has to recognise your Slack account as you before it will post.
A post carries plain text up to 3,000 characters and up to 20 images embedded in the output. Other attachments go in as links. Once it is live, the output shows View post. A post Questo sent cannot be marked as not published; delete it on LinkedIn instead.
When your LinkedIn login expires, the card asks you to reconnect.
The record¶
A published output shows a strip with the channel, the date and who published it, plus View post when there is a link. If you marked it published by hand without a link, Add link adds one later. The Outbox's Published section keeps the full history.
